The More and Better Work Plan

Good morning, fine folks!

I’m trying to work through this funk — my life being governed by idiots and stupid people.

I spent all morning applying to different positions — I’m kind of pigeon holed where I am and don’t have any wiggle room to move up or around.

So, I said to hell with it, and I started looking for something else.

Hopefully I get some nibbles. That would be nice.

But having to deal with this buzz word salad that are job descriptions — results oriented, detail oriented, subject matter expert, widely diverse, collective bargaining proposals, analyzes workforce reports…

So, don’t fuck up, know your business, know how to talk to people, and make sure shit is correct.

Lets face it: I’m not going go get any business idea off the ground right now and daydreaming about it and using it as a measuring stick for my life is unhealthy.

Also, I’m pretty sure that my plans with S.O. will fall through.

I just wish I could be completely reliant on myself and not have do deal with other people’s fuck ups and general stupidity, but the reality of it is… if your boss hires a bunch of incompetent people, you need to move on…. for the sake of your sanity.

Actually, we’re supposed to have a meeting about it this afternoon. Not me finding a new job… but about the other folks’ incompetence, unwillingness to follow procedures, and how much it makes me want to bang my head on the desk because I have to do more work and get paid the same as everyone else… because I actually TRY.

Like, for instance I manage the shipping of educational materials…. Lazy got a call from someone wanting some educational materials. Instead of transferring the call to me, she took down the information, getting the person’s name wrong and not asking for how much educational materials they wanted. Then emailed it to me, CC’ing someone else who isn’t a supervisor. Then I have to call the place to get quantities, ask for someone they’d never heard of to get the correct contact information. Had to wait on hold for 10 minutes while they found who’d made the call to order materials. Note: her name was completely different. I think they just got the first letter right. Get the quantity, and THEN ship the order. The the other person they CC’d on the email, who has nothing to do with materials requests, puts their $.02 in — Well, they do this, shouldn’t they be getting X material too…

If you had just transferred the godda….

Or, Incompetent asking me how you’re supposed to handle something covered in training on day 10. You been here for seven motherfuc….

**Woo Saaa**

I promise, I’m going to get out of this funk.

I am.

Really hard.

  1. Good luck! My husband has been looking for work for about three months now. With me being disabled (and not on disability) it’s been a rough few months…

Anyway, I wish you the best. Job hunting is tough work.

  2. Churchill’s famous quote seems to apply here,” you walk with the devil until you cross the bridge” and in your case the non-team player co-worker and the boss who isn’t paying close enough attention to the inner workings of the company. Always leaving behind good contacts is important in today’s business world so be careful not to burn any bridges on your way to better experiences. I wish you success in the job search.

  3. Oh my yes! πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ. Supervisors are promoted to one level beyond their incompetence, but then again you probably knew that πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰. This post made me laugh because I’ve been there! But sympathetically, because I feel for you, too πŸ’šπŸ’™

    • Thanks! I’ve noticed it’s a trend with all government jobs. I can vouch for state level employment. My S.O. works for county government… I don’t get how, as an employer, you can constantly hire completely incompetent people, who look real good on paper, and consistently overlook good hard working people, because they are lacking pieces of papers stating they know how to do something, but have the right skillset. I guess that’s my frustration — I’ve applied three times for our program’s data analyst position, and each time was told I didn’t have the right degree — I have a criminology degree with emphasis in data analysis and victimization. But they wanted someone with a background in health data analysis. Which, at the end of the day, is the same damn thing. All based on the same damn principles. And that position keeps ending up vacant and every time it does, I have a small chuckle to myself.
